Elle Lab is First Code Academy’s girls-only coding camps series. Our founder Michelle has been empowering young girls how to code from Silicon Valley to different parts of Asia. Having educated in a girls’ only environment through her primary and secondary school years, she believes in the power of a uni-gender education environment. Through the experience of First Code Academy, we have seen many girls coming to our courses wishing there were more other girls in the classrooms.
We believe that the next generation of female leaders is bold, resourceful and creative. Elle Lab's vision is to create that community of leaders from an early age.
Elle Lab aims to provide an inclusive environment, that is friendly and inviting for girls to experience coding the first time, meet fellow creative girls-coders and create projects with technology.
Our flagship AppJamming program, introduced under the Elle Lab, aims to empower students through teaching them problem solving using technology. From introducing fundamental computer science concepts, applying Design Thinking process to utilizing AppInventor as a language, we guide students to apply problem solving skills to their daily lives. Adapting a curriculum used in Silicon Valley, we cover user-centric design and mobile app development. Students receive personal guidance from our professional trained instructors in thinking through algorithms, decomposing problem and formulating multiple solutions.
P.S. Students in this course develop apps that are compatible with Android system, not iOS system.
We believe in developing a personal relationship with the student. Our instructors are as much teachers as we are facilitators, and coach for our students' learning. By ensuring a small class, each student benefits from maximum attention from instructor and teaching assistant, and at the same time, learns from peers.
Our courses are designed for students to run at their own pace. Our curriculum is level-based for each module, meaning that each student can learn at their own appropriate, customized pace.
First Code classrooms are messy, chaotic and we love it! We believe in hands-on creation, experimental learning and lots of discussion.
What happens after this holiday? Like learning any other language, learning to code is best done through an immersive, continual commitment. We offer a multi-year curriculum that allows students to deepen and broaden their interests in computer science and software development.
